Dr. Abdullah Jan Pathan

Dr. Abdullah Jan Pathan was born in Junagadh (India) in January 1936. After early schooling in Madrassah Junagadh & matriculation from sindh university in 1952, joined Liaqat Medical college in 1954, qualifying  MBBS in1959 in second position in the sindh university obtained a silver medal, joined government service in 1960 in WPHS II at Government TB sanatorium Kotri. Did TDD (Tuberculosis Disease Diploma) from King Edward college Lahore Punjab university 1962. Sleeted  for cento-fellowship in 1963 for DTM & H (Eng) Diploma in Tropical medicine & Hygiene London university. Got WHO fellowship for DTCD (WALES) (Diploma in Tuberculosis & chest disease) in 1970.

 After WHO study tours of Czechoslovakia and turkey returned to Pakistan in 1970. After remaining district health officer , civil surgeon and provincial Tuberculosis control officer. Director Hyderabad division. Got appointed as Director Ojha Institute of chest disease, Karachi from where proceeded t Japan & got MRIT (Member Research institute of Tuberculosis) in 1985. Later remained medical superintendent  Liaqat Medical college Hospital.

Hyderabad and ultimately  retired as director Institute of chest disease sindh Kotri in 1995.

   During 35 years of service, contributed innumerable scientific papers which were published in national & international medical journals. Especially the development of cold stain for AFB which was published in Tubercule, London. (1988; 69; 227-229)

He has written a book on Tuberculosis titled Jan’s Treatise on Epidemiology & control of Tuberculosis in 1988. He has contributed a chapter on Tuberculosis control in “Community medicine” by Prof: Illyas 1988 which is being taught at undergraduate level in all medical college.

 He remained member WHO expert advisory panel on Tuberculosis for more than a decade . In 1979, he went on a tour of People republic of china sponsored by IPPF London.

 He has attended various national & international conferences, especially the International Union against tuberculosis and lung disease (I.U.A.T.L.D) Conferences regularly.
